Second temple or Temple of Herod where Jesus preached, healed and drove the money changers from its outer court or the Court of Gentiles which lies outside the main structure. In front is the Court of Women. Passing through the Nicanor Gate leads to the Altar of Sacrifice, the Court of Priests and the Court of Israel. Inside the main Temple is the Holy Place, the vail that was torn at Jesus’ death and the Holy of Holies. It is here where the High Priest would enter once a year on Yom Kippur to sprinkle blood for atonement. This temple was destroyed by the Romans in 70 A.D.
